Gluten Free for a decade
Does your tolerance for gluten increase after you have been gluten free for a period of time? A person may not experience the symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea as severely, once they have been on a gluten free diet for a period of time. The small intestine has been able to heal and a person may ” get away with” eating small amounts of gluten. However, there is still damage being done to the intestinal lining. You still have Celiac Disease and the auto immune response to gluten in your body.
Comment from a Celiac
” I was diagnosed with Celiac disease 10 years ago, so I have been gluten free for a decade. It was an incredible challenge at first. I had a list of produce and possible grains that I might be able to eat. There was no labeling of gluten free products and no way to know what was safe to eat. It is so different now. ”
Things do get better with time, and as you learn how to cope with Celiac Disease.
