Delaware’s first dedicated gluten free bakery and lunch cafe.

Baked from scratch in-house, the bakery offers a line up of amazing breads, muffins, brownies, granola, cakes & cupcakes, pies and more.

The cafe serves a lunch menu which includes a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche and even homemade pizza, all completely free of gluten and gluten-contaminated ingredients.

The cafe also offers organic, fair trade coffee drinks and smoothies made from real ingredients. Espresso lattes and chai lattes offer a selection of organic milk, organic almond milk or organic coconut milk with organic syrup flavors or organic sugar options.

The Birch Tree Cafe, Delaware’s first dedicated gluten free kitchen, was named for the family that owns and operates the restaurant, three of whom have celiac disease and follow a strict gluten free diet. The family name, Berzins, is a Latvian name that roughly translates to “little birch tree” in English.

The Birch Tree Cafe opened it’s doors in May 2012 with determination to offer interesting and nutritious foods not only free from gluten but safe from cross contamination ingredients as well. Organic and natural ingredients are featured throughout most of the menu. All foods are prepared fresh and from scratch in our kitchen.

The coffee/espresso bar, bakery goods and our Grab-n-Go items are available during all open hours. Beverage options range from the espresso bar including organic fair-trade coffee & latte options, chai tea, organic hand-crafted sodas, organic wine and gluten free beer or ale.

The lunch menu includes a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche and pizza and is offered with table service or take out daily from 10:30am to 4:00pm Wednesday through Monday. Tuesday is take out only.

Featuring the Birch Tree Bakers label, an amazing line of baked in-house breads are developing quite a following. Bakery goods presently include a variety line of amazing muffins, brownies, biscotti bites, granola & cupcakes available everyday. Cakes and a variety of pies are available by pre-order.
